The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil Review - Zit Zit Hurray!

As promised, here I am again with a new review. Sorry for the delay but what do you do if your internet just won't work?! *arghh..so buggiing!*

Today we will be reviewing the Tea Tree Oil from The Body Shop.

Now I am a girl with fair, sensitive and acne-prone skin. So when I came across this little bottle which I thought contained magic potion for my skin, I could not contain my excitement!

I thought I will also be like those models with shiny, clean glossy skin and men and women will turn their heads just to get a sneak peek at me! (men wondering who I am and their women also wondering who I am for other reasons hehe ;) ) Not that I have a lot of pimples/ pimple marks but even if those few could go, wouldn't it be great!

But alas! This product did not turn out to be my magic potion..so I am still on the hunt *sob*

So what's the big deal about Tea Tree Oil you say??

Tea Tree Oil extracted from the Australian plant 'Melaleuca alternifolia'  is a clear liquid with a strong smell which resembles that of camphor.

It can be used for several purposes including:
1. Treatment of Acne
2. Antiseptic for skin and scalp infections
3. To help clear chest congestion when you have that horrible cold (just add a few drops to hot water and inhale that steam with your head covered with a towel)

What The Body Shop Claims about this product:

Targeted care for blemished skin. Can be used direct on skin or for facial steaming.
  • Has antibacterial properties
  • Does not dry out skin
Ingredients:

Aqua (Solvent/Diluent), Alcohol Denat. (Solvent/Diluent), PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil (Emulsifier), Polysorbate 20 (Emulsifier), Melaleuca Alternifolia Leaf Oil (Natural Additive), Limonene (Natural Additive), t-Butyl Alcohol (Denaturant), Calophyllum Inophyllum Seed Oil (Skin Conditioning Agent), Citral (Natural Additive), Leptospermum Petersonii Oil (Natural Additive), Denatonium Benzoate (Denaturant), Tocopherol (Antioxidant).

How To Use:

Apply directly to skin using fingertips or a cotton bud. For facial steaming, add three or four drops to a bowl of hot water. Lean over the bowl, cover your head with a towel and steam for a few minutes.

My Take on the Product:

When I first started using this product I knew that it would obviously not just make my skin flawless overnight.
I started applying this product before sleeping. I used my fingers to apply it over any zits that I could see were about to appear and existing blemishes.
I also applied it once in the morning when I got ready to go to work.

Honestly, it is not the best product for acne and blemishes. It did not really dry out the zits..just contributed in it not becoming a full fledged big red ball of fire on my face. If the pimple would have dried out in 5 days, it dried out in 3. I have also been putting this on the few blemishes that I have but it has not really lightened them. They are still the same. :(

Overall, this product has disappointed me. Like I said earlier, it is not the most effective acne treatment I have come across.

Pros:

1. Cute and leak-proof packaging
2. Doesn't show on the skin so you can keep it applied the whole day

Cons:

1. It is not really value for money, retailing at Rs. 445 or $9 for .33fl oz
2. Does nothing much for pimples/ blemishes. I could not see that my blemishes had lightened..much alone vanish!
3. Stings a little, which I think is the oil's reaction to the skin
4. For people with dry skin this can be a little drying, compared to what is claimed by the Company
5. Not everyone can like the smell of the tea tree oil.

I would give this product a 3/5.

Until next time!

xoxo
